Spider Orchid
Spider Orchid
Commission for Phase 3 landscape architects working for Satterly Co in partnership with Emerge Associates & City of Cockburn.
The intention was to bring an artistic interpretation of the branding and colours of the new Kara Estate at Treeby, to create a significant artwork along the full length of the boundary wall to Armadale Road.
The graphic interpretation of rare Spider Orchid, previously found in the area, was reimagined as a hand drawn image, applied at large scale with strong colour across the 250 metre long wall.
The orchid image was enlarged and cropped to effectively break up the considerable length of the wall, maximising visual interest. Small floating shapes contrasted with large background ellipses achieve a dynamic rhythm that is enhanced when travelling past the wall by car at speed.
An artistic solution was achieved by encouraging the client away from the repeated graphic motif seen elsewhere in these type of residential developments to a fully painted mural treatment.
