Surrounded by large trees and wetland areas, Westfield Park Primary is a beautiful school. The mural was created with input from the students over a single day in-class workshop. 6 separate groups brainstormed ideas together with the assistance of art teacher, Jen Wade. Discussing themes of emotional regulation, we explored how we can feel calm when emotions take over. The design, developed further by me, incorporates the school emblem of the heron as a steadfast presence. Bold, simple shapes were used to represent other natural elements on the rough brick. The reduced colour palette using green and violet reflects the colours of the school. This mural offers the students a place to sit and reflect when feeling sad or stressed.
